Varsity Lions took the lead late in a 5-4 victory over South Forsyth on Thursday to win the series two games to one and advance to Columbus for next round of GHSA playoffs.

South took an early three run lead in the first but starter Elle Lunsford held them there until the seventh. Lunsford earned the win with seven complete innings allowing seven hits and four runs with one strikeout.

With only one run scored by Sidney Strange in the fifth on a South fielding error, the Lions erupted for four runs in the final frame thanks to hits by Lunsford, Madison Strange, and Zaia Hammond. With the game tied at three, Alex Harris then singled home two runs to take the lead they would not relinquish.

The bottom of the seventh proved exciting as South Forsyth mounted a comeback, scoring a run but had two runners cut down out at the plate by Catcher Samantha Brown who tagged out would be runs on throws by outfielders Kennedy Harp and Zaia Hammond.
